Modular 2, 3 and 4 pole combined lightning 10/350 and voltage surge arrester 8/20 conforming to the latest IEC standards Class I & II (Type 1 & 2), to protect against the effects of direct lightning strikes and the resultant mains disturbance.


When selecting the nominal voltage required the voltage should be selected on the basis of L-N or L-Earth depending on the system. The standard version recommended for 380-550V L-L or 220-320V L-N systems is the 320V version. For 110V L-L systems use the 150V version, according to IEC-61643-11.


The units are suitable for AC single phase or three phase systems and are purchased either as 2, 3 or 4 pole units, thus a TP&N system requires a 4 pole unit (if a Neutral is present, it must be protected). Wiring is in parallel with discrimination fuses or a MCB fitted. For systems of ≥250 Amps fuses 250 Amps gG are recommended. All units have a common Earth terminal that needs to be bonded down to Earth.

Modular voltage surge arresters 8/20 conforming to the latest IEC standard Class II (Type 2), developed to protect against the effects of indirect lightning strikes and resultant induced voltages. Two choices of nominal voltage options are available.

These units are designed to protect small 12, 24 and 48VDC floating power supplies and systems and are wired in series, maximum system load 4 Amps. Protection is via MOV’s, the plug in module facilitates the replacement of a failed MOV without the need to disconnect the system wiring and as it is in parallel across the system, failure or removal of the module does not interrupt the system voltage.

The units are suitable for both DC floating or Earthed systems and are wired in parallel and the need of fusing is not required. Wiring of a floating system requires the Earth (PE terminals) to be bonded to Earth, for a negative Earthed system the negative terminal and PE terminals are both connected to the negative voltage rail, the opposite applies for a positively Earthed system.

These units are designed to protect all DC “floating” analogue signal lines both voltage and mA, including TTL levels and PT100 signals. The maximum potential of any signal line can be 30VDC, signal lines are wired in series, maximum current 1 Amp. Available as either single channel or double channel, in the case of a double channel each channel is isolated from each other. Protection is via Gas Discharge Tube technology and high speed silicon avalanche diodes.
